First day in Mumbai... Pooja's dad takes us on a tour of the township they live in
This is the area Pooja's family lives in. It is quite nice, and peaceful and relaxing... especially given that one of the worlds largest cities is right down the street
There are lots of stray dogs roaming the city...
And cows... mooo. They will walk up to the car all innocently, when I know in their heads they are planning a secret running of the bulls stampede.
In preparation / celebration for the wedding, Poojas family made lots of decorations for their house. There are flowers all over the place
Their friends and neighbors hand drew decorations on the floors before we arrived. Then the cleaning guy came and mopped it up ... oops
I'm sure this will be brought up later... but the traffic in Mumbai is unlike anything I have ever seen before. I would never be able to drive here, as you can see from this photo, there are no traffic lanes, and the traffic lights are ignored. The roads are cluttered with rickshaws and bicycles, crosswalks are meaningless, and horns are necessary for survival.
Here is a typical street shop, most of the signs are in Hindi and their corresponding English translations
